Masjid At-Taqwa Re-Opens Sisters Centre

Masjid At-Taqwa Re-Opens Sisters Centre after major renovation, extension and modernisation Works.

In early June 2015, Masjid At-Taqwa announced the re-opening and completion of major works to its Sisters Centre at 1 Harewood Street, and hosted two separate open days for the local community to come and see the modernised facility first-hand. The works included:-

•    General expansion, providing at least a 30% increase in capacity
•    Complete renovation of the whole site including new carpets, stairs
     and décor
•    New fully fitted kitchen
•    New wudu, toilets and ablution facilities
•    Air conditioning installed on two floors
•    Dedicated space for push chairs
•    Improved access (and fire exits)
•    Improved audio and video

Along with hot food, refreshments and a giant inflatable slide entertaining young children (and adults alike), the open day for ladies on the 7th of June was a huge success. It provided an opportunity to showcase the broad spectrum of work and activities undertaken and managed by our Sisters, themed around past, present and future. It was a wonderful day which attracted over 150 people over several hours, with old and new faces from all sections of the community.

A similar Open Day for Men was held on the 14th of June with short guided tours of the new Centre. It also provided an opportunity to showcase the work of the Sisters and the Masjid. It proved to be hugely successful with large numbers of people touring the site and enjoying the tea/coffee and light snacks provided.

Masjid At-Taqwa was delighted that senior representatives from the FMO ( including Yasmin Surti and Suleman Nagdi attended both the Sisters and Brothers Open Day events respectively, and we look forward to continuing our work with the FMO in the future.

Furthermore, it was wonderful to meet and host local Councillors Luis Fonseca and Jean Khote who also attended the event on the 14th of June taking the opportunity to tour the Centre and meet representatives from the Mosque.

The re-opening of the Sisters Centre marks a significant milestone for Masjid At-Taqwa and we sincerely ask Allah to continue to bless our Mosque, its congregation and community to uphold His message and promote neighbourliness to all.

Please take an opportunity to see our dedicated archive of the project work on the Sisters Centre, which provides a library of pictures showing the broad scope of the works and project.

See below for pictures of the Open Day specifically for the Men as well as the local representatives of the community.

There are also two great video clips illustrating a timeline of work, and the pivotal, metaphorically  significant replacement of the old stable doors which have stood for over 50 years to the new entrance for the Sisters Centre.

Masjid At-Taqwa highly commends the excellent work by the volunteers involved in this charitable work, we ask Allah to shower His Blessings upon it and urge all within our community to support this noble cause.

Please continue your support of the Masjid and its work through your Duas and financial backing – fill in a standing order form today!
